The Biggest Films Coming to Cinemas in 2026

Between animated family adventures and action-packed superhero epics to horror flicks, special event cinema, emotional dramas and so much more heading to the big screen in 2026 and beyond, there’s never been a better time to be a film fan.

So far this year, we’ve already seen some incredible movies land at our Cineworld venue, from Chloé Zhao’s award-winning Hamnet and Emerald Fennel’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights to the latest in the Scream slasher franchise. And we’re only just getting started.

Coming up in 2026, you can expect to see everything from epic heroes in Greek mythology, the return of your favourite Marvel characters, another adventure for Woody, Buzz and the gang and so much more. And best of all? Your local Cineworld right here brings you straight to the heart of the action, offering a huge film line-up, easy transport links so you can watch in Edinburgh in both ease and style, and a fantastic line-up of restaurants on-site for a bite to eat after your film.

Spring 2026

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (1st April)

Wahoooo! The Super Mario Bros. Movie is getting a sequel, and it’s hitting cinema screens in Fountain Park from 1st April. Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy and Jack Black are all set to return for another nostalgic, funny and family-friendly adventure that’s sure to be one the year’s biggest family movie hits.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 (1st May)

An icon returns – and it’s sure to look fabulous while doing so. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt are reuniting for another high fashion drama, no doubt serving up incredible looks, scathing comments and highly entertaining movie moments along the way.

Summer 2026

Toy Story 5 (19th June)

The toys are back – and this time, they’re taking on tech. Over 30 years after the original Toy Story hit cinemas and became an instant classic, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are returning to lend their voices to Woody and Buzz once again for a new film instalment that sees the toys come up against an all-new challenge in their life with Bonnie.

Supergirl (26th June)

The DC superhero is finally getting a movie of her very own when James Gunn’s Supergirl lands in cinemas in June 2026. Following on from 2024’s Superman, this all-new action-packed superhero film sees Milly Alcock’s Supergirl turned into an antihero character who’s drawn into a murderous quest for revenge.

The Odyssey (17th July)

Casts don’t get much more star-studded than this one, and with Christopher Nolan at the helm , you know that this is one action/adventure fantasy film that is sure to deliver. An adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic the Odyssey, this sure-to-be summer blockbuster stars Matt Damon as Odysseus as he attempts to travel home to Ithaca following the Trojan War in an upcoming movie release that you won’t want to miss.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (31st July)

Ready for even more superhero action this summer? Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker in Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, picking up four years after the end of his last adventure, Spider-Man: No Way Home. As the world has forgotten Peter Parker exists, Peter now spends his time anonymously protecting New York as the hero Spider-Man, but soon he uncovers a larger mystery that forces him to face the consequences of his past. Pick up the extra large popcorn for this one – it’s sure to be edge-of-year-seat blockbuster viewing.

Autumn/Winter 2026

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (20th November)

We’re heading back to the world of the Hunger Games, and this time it’s Haymitch Abernathy’s story. Sunrise on the Reaping recounts the events of the Second Quarter Quell, held 24 years before the start of the first book in the series, with twice the number of tributes drawn to fight in the annual Hunger Games tournament.

Avengers: Doomsday (18th December)

Expect a superhero team-up of epic proportions, and all just in time for a Christmas cinema treat too. Here, we’ll see the Avengers, Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers and the “original” X-Men team up to face a new enemy: Doctor Doom. 

Dune: Part Three (18th December)

Also landing in Edinburgh cinemas over the holiday season is the third and final film in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy. Starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh and more, the film adapts Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah, which continues the story of Paul Atreides 12 years after the end of Dune: Part Two.
